What do all those letters mean behind my doctors’ name?

    • DDS or DMD – Doctor of Dental Surgery and Doctor
    • FAGD – Fellow Academy of General Dentistry
    • DABP – Diplomate American Board of Craniofacial Pain
    • DABCDSMM – Diplomate American Board of Craniofacial Dental Sleep Medicine
    • DABO – Diplomate America Board of Orthodontics

What is an FAGD Dentist – If your dentist is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD), they are the best of the best in the field. Only the top 6 percent of general dentists in the U.S. and Canada are AGD Fellows. You can rest assured that your dentist cares about knowing the latest techniques and best practices in dentistry. Your dentist practices these techniques in a classroom setting multiple times a year — not every dentist does this. To become an FAGD dentist, a dentist must: be practicing Dentistry for over 5 years, complete over 500 credit hours of continuing education, earn 350 of those 500 credits in live courses and live patients, pass an exam equal in difficulty to a board certification exam.

What is a Diplomate – A Diplomate is a person who has received a diploma, especially a doctor and who has been certified as a specialist by a board within the appropriate profession. Diplomate status is an important professional achievement that signifies to patients plus dental, medical and other healthcare professionals that the Dentist promotes and maintains the highest standards of patient care, teaching and research in the discipline of their field for the benefit of the public.

If we must refer out, we promise to send you to carefully vetted colleagues who apply the same professional principles in their office that we do in ours. Most of the recommended referrals are procedures that are better treated by a specialist. We have a full-time Board-Certified Orthodontist on staff at both of our locations in Leawood, Kansas and Louisburg, Kansas to treat all your orthodontic and TMJ issues, for more information please visit our orthodontists website at www.drlaurasortho.com

Comfort

We respect and understand that many patients experience dental anxiety. At our office, we do everything we can to make sure that your experience is as enjoyable as possible. By communicating clearly what you can expect during your treatment, we are often able to alleviate dental fear. We encourage you to bring headphones and music to listen to during your treatment and ask us about our dental sedation options.
